View Full Version : The Perfect Vampire Community

Recently we've all struggled in our own ways to say what we wish for our community. This is going to be a, somewhat, fun thread but make no mistake, it has a purpose.
In this thread, I'd like everyone to tell us what YOUR view of the perfect community would be. Try to set aside anger, disillusionment. What is wrong in reality doesn't matter, and for this thread does not even exist. Our present community has nothing to do with the one I would like to see you create... or maybe it does, but the point is, you start with a blank slate and tell us what you would like.
I don't mean tell us who you want to be Elder or even what you want Elders to do... but rather go deeper. What would your community offer?
Using the example of a house, house meaning a structure where a family lives, and not a vampire "house", let's say an individual is building a house. The actual structure is not the ultimate concern, the house itself is nothing but wood, brick, mortar etc...but rather what that structure provides. So the individual will consider what it is they want the house to provide and they plan it to be built accordingly. They may want space, so they build it large, they may want warmth, and so decide carpeting is the way to go, they may want solitude or quiet, so they build outside of city limits, etc.
So basically, I'd like us to say what we're looking for in our community, what comforts we seek, what functionality we desire. In this thread, no one need concern themself with reality, or what someone else wants or believes... this is YOUR community alone, the one you're creating. We'll deal with reality later. It would be good to see what it is each of us wants and, who knows, we might find what each individual wants isn't so far off what we want collectively.
Let's keep in mind, each reply here will be the wishes, dreams and desires of the author, and therefore, should not be up for argument or criticism. This is merely for interest sake and perhaps a bit of enjoyment. Of course, anyone who might disagree with another's view of a perfect vampire community is welcome and encouraged to post one too.
I would love to see how many of these we can get and see all the different ideas. We never know when or if, or even how one of these might inspire us or give us an idea for an actual world.
So, in THIS post... anything goes!! I do not care if you think what you want is improbable or even impossible. Be creative and honest. Whatever YOU say is possible is possible in this thread because you are the creator. Just try to keep it honest, and put in what you would truly like to see, rather than making it fiction for fiction sake, or sci-fi for sci-fi sake.
That said...I have a vampire community to create...:p

Here is mine, and maybe will give everyone an idea of what I was thinking of when I asked these to be written...
Lauren's Vampire Community
In my world, Vampires are seen as the individuals they are first, and their energy needs, feeding methods, and energy work, secondary. A Vampire can walk among their non-vampiric counter-parts without doubt or concern, knowing they're accepted and not feared or misunderstood. It can be said of me, "Oh! that's Lauren... she's cool! I visited her at her house one time and she was okay!", rather than, "Hey, that's Lauren and she's pretty cool but she won't tell me where she lives". In my world, we wouldn't have to be concerned with our property being vandalized by those who fear us. We would not have to fight for the right to raise our own children because society believes us to be unfit because of our claim of being Vampire.
On the other hand, my world would be such that those vampires who wish to remain in the shadows, would be allowed that privacy and respect. They would not be drawn out, questioned, criticized, or critiqued by anyone. Not only that, but we would not only be accepted, but rather respected because of our abilities, and our "oddities" would be recognized, rather, as differences that are inherant in those with special gifts. Even though we would be respected, we would not be immitated and exaggerated characters in which others think they have to give unrealistic or fantastical attributes.
As individuality goes, In my world, each person is appreciated for their differences, and not called "posers" because one's experiences differ from another. I want a world where sangs are inquisitive about psi vampires, Therians, Otherkin rather than dismissive or disinclusive. Each Vampire is judged on his/her own merit, rather than that of a collective. Donors would not fear me because some other vampire behaved unseemly. Vampires would appreciate and cherish donors, and treat them with high regard, and not as Kegs ready to be tapped.
In my world, there would be order, direction and guidance, and our existance would be one of learning, growth and searching--of both the internal world and the external. My world would be all about the journey, and not so strongly about destination, as destinations sometimes change, based on what is gleaned along the journey.
In "The Perfect Vampire Community" there would be leaders/elders but their purpose would lay heavily on the side of teaching, and guiding. As a whole, we would work together, each respecting the other and sharing in the making or strengthening of the community with Elders acting as members and stepping in with authority only to keep order, or put out "fires" or guide us back on track when we, inevitably, head off course. Members would walk along-side Leaders as equals and friends, as leaders/elders would also seek counsel or opinions of members. Each would see the other as a friend and as the person they are, rather than their position.
... and above all, in MY world... Lauren is BOSS... (hey, this is my world... ya'll are just invited to be in it!) :D (okay, that was obviously a bad attempt at humor)

I love the way you think darlin and i so look forward to creating my very own community within this thread :D It might take me some time and thats just not what i have today lol
This one i will think long and hard about but i just want to thank you for this addition to the boards, your very insightful and i respect you a lot just through your words..Be back when my little world is complete lol *hugs*

Awesome! Just remember this one need not be totally realistic, for example, in my world, Vampires and Kin would also be in occupations that utilized their abilities such as Healers, Spiritualists, Councellors, etc.
Go wild on this one. Make it fun!

Ok... perfect vampire community. Well its a tricky one. My own personal vampire community (and some wont agree with this, but as you say its my community so ...bah humbug).
In my ideal there would be a country somewhere where we could all live if we chose. It wouldnt be closed off to the rest of humanity, but it would be a haven. Therein there would be no distance between loves. You could come and stay as you pleased, you could move there, or you could visit once a lifetime, and even then not compulsory.
The OVC would still exsist for communication, education and accessing the community initially. The country would have all types of terrain, cities, mountains, villages and castles. An environment that everyone could find either the company or the solitude they sought.
As suggested, the psy and those who practice majik as well as empaths would be able to utilise their gifts to help people. Education would be accessible to all. There would be no hiding needed as only those who wanted to be part of the community would go to the trouble of seeking it out. Donors would be cherished and feircly protected. High tech medical facilities would exsist in the cities to care for them and us alike.
No dress code. No subscription necessary. It would be a whole world in one country. And those small minded and bigoted individuals may not attend.

Firstly I just want to thank Lauren for starting this thread and I hope that everyone (or most anyway) will make some form of response to it. I think, especially for those who are feeling disatisfied, that this is an ideal opportunity to reveal how you really would like things to be. It's only when people do this that we have any hope for achievement.. all the energy, drive and enthusiasm in the world is useless if it has no clear direction nor goals.
I've been thinking myself of what I would say in response to this thread and to be perfectly honest, in a lot of ways it has reminded me of how good things are already. Yes there are ways they could be improved and I hope we can continue to make things better, but in trying to think how I would like to see them be I realise how much we already have, or how we have at least started down the path to achieving some of these goals.
When I first awoke I was online, but on a chat site where, whilst the topic was dark, there weren't really any hugely open vampires. One I was lucky enough to have as a mentor and they helped to shape me into the person I am- still do when I go off course *laughs*. However, there were a few months where there was no-one.. where the best I could find was a hint here and a small trail there of information to then try to track down, evaluate, attempt to make some sense of. All this whilst questioning my very nature. Then I came to Nox a small while later, when things had started to make some kind of sense and things became very different. Perhaps we don't at the moment have the same enthusiasm as Nox did then and that's certainly something I would to bring back. When I came here, no question was too small, no piece of information was witheld and suddenly I had any number of people to talk to and learn from. That gave me the confidence to go elsewhere, meet others in RL as well and start to pass on to them what had been so freely given to me. That is probably the biggest thing I would wish for, if I could make this community into my 'ideal'. These days anyone can go online and find information, but there's not always the help to actually be shown what is USEFUL info or even something as simple as someone to talk to as you go through it all. It's not enough to be able to read 100 forums, if there's not someone to actually show you how to take written works and practise them, or tell you that if you can do things in your own way and do them better then that's completely fine. I would like to see a time where there is more mentoring, without it being about the name or the ego of the person or group who're doing it, where it's done for the sake of the sanity, safety and progress of the student, even (or especially) when that means that one day they'll overtake you.
Another thing that I would love to see would be a chance for us to break from the terms and labels that hold us back. I know a lot of people have argued against stopping using the word 'vampire' elsewhere, so I won't start to go into it all again.. but if, we HAVE to have a label in the first place, then why not have something that doesn't immediately have negative connotations.
A third thing I would like to see is a better mix and rapport between different groups. We all know there's no war between vampires and otherkin like in the movies, but let's be honest, in other ways there is. Many otherkin aren't allowed to engage with the vampire community and god forbid you (like myself) are a mix. What about the magickal community and other energy workers (like healers etc)? To me, it is perfectly clear that there is much we could learn from each other. For example, as someone who has studied reiki and other forms of energy healing I would LOVE for every vampire to have a chance to learn about this, because it's a source that has gotten me through some horrendous times. As someone who practises magick and who remembers a time when many vampires practised vampyrecraft, I find it sad that we have these talents that we don't use and which, in many cases, have become taboo. As someone who fits several kin types, I would like to be able to say within the vampire community what I am, let alone the wider world.
There are a lot of other things I could say.. it'd be lovely to be easily able to find safe, clean donors; it would be fantastic to not see us represented in the media as psychos; it'd be nice to get through a year without us all arguing *laughs*, but in a lot of ways these things don't matter so much- or at least they wouldn't- if we had the firmer foundations that I've already mentioned.
I'm sure there are many more things I could (and possibly shall) add to this, but wanted to make a start at least.

---I wrote this last night when Lauren wrote her introductory post to this thread (she sent it to me on notepad). I was most intrigued so I replied on a notepad of my own. I have not read any of the replies in this thread yet so this is straight from what I wrote last night. I am mentioning this because I have now my introductory thread, my Online Safety thread, and this... all within 10 minutes of each other.---
Ok, let us see...
Bear in mind that, if I could create my ideal House and community both in real life and online, it would be as I am to describe. I know that this is an impossibility in real life and it is an impracticality in online life. However, I am going to write out my fantasy. For ease of reference I am selecting a name for this House or community: Sanguinox. That is just a name I am picking.
Firstly, I do not care about my personal "status", "Eldership", or any of that rot. This is just me. I do not wish status, I do not wish to be an Elder. I do not consider myself competent enough or wise enough to fill such a position. Elders should be, I believe, decided upon by the populace they hold Eldership over.
I know we need Elders and I know that without them the House shan't function. A body cannot function without its brain, for example.
The question of "what makes an Elder" is something that should be in another post, I would think, due to the very in-depth nature of the question. I shall summarize briefly what I wish in an Elder, however.
I wish an Elder to be the one with the level head, with (pardon the pun) his or her finger on the pulse of the community. I want the Elders to be compassionate and impartial. I do not believe an Elder should be a tinplate dictator or petty God. Personally, I would walk off, shaking my head in disgust, at such a person.
Who should be the Elders of the House called Sanguinox? I do not know. I have not been here long enough to make an informed decision.
To continue:
I want a House where there is no bigotry. I want no fights between sangs, psis, otherkin, what have you. I became fatigued with the "sang/psi" debate long ago and simply refused to participate further. In fact, I want a House where no bigotry is allowed... period. It should not matter what creed, color, religion, type of vampire, or any other triviality that you are. That is what bigotry exploits: trivialities. Think about it a moment. What makes a man (or woman) is their hearts and souls. Of course, the task of ensuring this would fall on the Elders. Lucky them.
Courtesy. I wish a House of courtesy. I do not mind if discord and disagreement is shown, as long as it is shown courteously. Actually, I believe disagreements and differing opinions, when handled courteously, stimulate growth and thought. If everyone agrees with each other, there is not much growth. And, I believe the Elders of the community should ensure that this occurs. Again, lucky them.
I want somewhere I can come to and know that I am not going to be swamped with Drama. I am 32 years Awakened (I erred in my application and said 31) and I have, in my short time online, had it well up above my head with Drama. I want to walk into this House called Sanguinox and know that I can breathe a sigh of relief, that the Drama that the OVC is steeped in is not going to be here. I really do feel sorry for these Elders.
I do not expect everyone to like me (or anyone else), however, in the House I am building in my mind I want everyone to be courteous to me. Liking and agreement are not prerequisites... politeness would be.
I do not believe in the "we are all created equal" because that is, face it, illogical and impractical.
What I DO believe in is we should all be TREATED equally.
That is what I want to see in a House.

Thank you Lauren for this thread, I’m sure like me it has many people thinking, I have taken my time in replying because something like this deserves total concentration and utmost consideration to every detail. As you have wisely said it should be built as one would build a house or should I say HOME, where one has all the comforts, amenities, security and support of the family around them.
I have taken this literally for my perfect home and it is as follows
THE FOUNDATIONS; As ever these should strong and able to stand the test of time, so in my perfect community these would be those that have proven themselves to be honourable and giving of themselves, those who have displayed a true loyalty to the community, as I am new to this community, I can only draw my experience from Nox, and I must say there are many here I would (and this is a big word) TRUST to take the mantel of being that foundation, for all I have ever seen of them they give of their selves to others with out any thought or question, they have interceded and sorted issues either behind the scenes with out anyone else knowing or simply and respectfully ‘corrected’ people in posts, as a father would quietly correct a child that was misbehaving. Some are wise and some are caring, some have shown true courage and honour. I guess in simple terms, TRUTH, LOYALTY, CURAGE and HONOUR,
They lead by example, and do not wield the fickle sword of self gratification.
THE BRICKS: These I see as the community itself, some are of the normal shape, some are of a small ornate shape and others are keystones, but all are needed to form the structure of the great House/Home. What I am trying to say is we cannot be judgemental in the building blocks, Vampire, Other kin, Energy workers and Magic (please forgive me if I’ve missed anyone) all provide their own special qualities to create this grand CASTLE, I use the word castle instead of house not to romanticise the issue but as it is significant in the respect that they have stood the test of time and are a glowing example of what can be achieved when people put their minds into it.
Now here I enter into a little fantasy….Imagine if you will a mystical structure built of all the elements of our different kinds, Imagine the energies that would bond it all together, Ancient, spirits of the creature, magic, and energies of the healers all merging together to form an impregnable castle, not only that imagine if you will what it would feel like to enter into their, with all those energies surrounding you, I should imagine it to be electrifying an experience beyond words…
THE MORTAR: As I have said above the mortar is the energies that have crossed between Other kin and Vamp, between Magic and Energy workers and so forth…. It is the buddy system were men don’t fight in war just because they are told, they do it because they don’t want to see their buddy dead, some even to the point of sacrificing there own lives, When this principal is used with the powerful energies that exist between each and everyone of us on this site, then in my mind at least we have built a strong structure
THE ROOF; As ever this needs to protect and keep out the unwanted elements and when I say unwanted elements I mean, those that seek to damage and cause rot, it keeps us dry and safe. This to me is the future of the community it is those that have the foresight to see where protection is needed and where any rot may take place, the roof to me is like a caretaker some one who looks out for us all and warns us of any problems that may arise
THE FLOORS; As with the foundations these too have to be strong, strong enough o SUPPORT our community, as with any great buildings there are many levels, and unless we have the ability to physically fly we all enter on the ground floor, and work our way up as we all learn to climb and negotiate each winding stair case. And so to me the floors are those of us in the community that are willing to teach and offer advice, when I say teach I mean just that, I don’t mean dictate, and as we each climb a new level if we so choose we each have the responsibility to help those on the floor below us as we in turn learn from those on the floors above, please note I said floors, as this is not to be a hierarchy but just a way of learning to climb the stairs.
THE ROOMS; Well first of all the living room, this is were we all meet as family and we would be no different to any other family we would be divers in our interests and natures and we would all respect and appreciate each others views, yes there will always be disagreements but those would be supported and kept safe by the very foundations we rely upon, never once should they be allowed to damage the roof and let the rot in. In this room we can all learn how each and every one of us live our daily lives differently and maybe glean some wisdom as to what hardships each and every one of us have to deal with, with understanding comes respect and the ability to adapt
The Kitchen/Dining room, This is the place where we are all taught to eat safely and where abstract as it maybe, the food is cherished and has its say in the matter, all of us feed differently and to each there is a way of learning where this can be done safely and economically, in other words with the least amount of hassle or stress
The bathroom, again were we learn cleanliness and about the dangers of unclean practise, and as with our parents the lesson sometimes has voiced over and over again, but at least again we are trying to protect the ones we care about
The bedroom, A place of sanctuary and safety were we can lay our head and feel safe, a place were we can revel in our dreams and not feel ridiculed about what they may mean.
The Study, The place of learning and writing, were great works can be read and the creative mind is allowed to run free, remember most great inventions were first born from the creative minds of the fictional writers
The reception hall, the most important room in the house, where we welcome all new guests and new family members
The last room is to me needed above all others, and that is the play room, a room where we can all be who we are and laugh and joke and not take things too seriously, sometimes we get buried under all the pressures of trying to do things right, that we forget how to have fun and enjoy ourselves, we are all still the little children we were when we were young, its just that we have had to learn to accept and deal with more and more responsibility along the way.
Well there is my idea of a Castle/ House/ Community where a FAMILY can live and function and grow together……….

we all have a dream.. this is mine
i dream of a place we can call our own, were all vampires and kin are welcome, were we are free to grow, teach, learn, experiment and raise families (i would place it somewhere on the african coast plenty of empty land) we would have our own towns and cities, law and order, we would be at peace with the world and other our talents comercially. not all vampires would live there but all would be welcome at any time, it would always be a safe home from home for all. we would have schools to teach the young, our young wether they awaken to be vamps or stay mundane, about everything we have learnt as well as basic needed education for this modern world.
our society would be one of many familys and clans each with diffrent customs and practices but all joined into one larger whole for the greater good of all vampires, and this combined community would be run by a council, which would have one member from each of these family/clans representing the will of their faction, making the small daily the decisions that make a nation run for faction, when a major policy shift or community affecting decision came about they would go to their factions and recieve the votes of the people they represent and then that would decide their vote on the major issues (like going to war, a change in a major law or saddly to say taxes). they would be our leaders and would elect the head of the council, who would be kinda like the president, but would be more of the balancing agent to keep the peace between all family/clans when no decsion could be made by a vote. this being would also be our representitve to the mundane world, the voice of the people in foriegn affairs bringing into affect the will of the people upon the community and the rest of the world as need be.
i know that not all vampire would join our community, but if they did'nt even if they spat on it and swore to hate it, if they needed help we would be there for them with no ill will returnd, if they were being attacked by a bunch of crazies we'd send our boys to save their asses, that kind of thing ya.
the OVC would still exsist but more expanded into a vast communications network for our people to keep in touch no matter were they were even if they didnt chose to join our community, or live in it, so that they could still get the help and learning thos in our new world benefitted from.
we would be a nation without prejudice, we would learn that even tho you did'nt agree with that family/clans beleifs and ideals you would be nice enougth to state you disagree and not go trying to beat sense into them.
all religeons would be tollerated and free to build their own churches and places of worship. although i would also have built chapels of light which would have a shrine ot every religeon worshipped by our people in its walls, for it would be a signifyer of the unity of our kind no matter our faith under the light of heaven (valhalla, the sumer lands, the elysium fields, whatever version you belive in) in the battle against the darkness of the void (hell, tartarus, the pit, so on and so forth).
i got waffle on but thats the basic idea kinda, could do with alot more depth, description and so on but im really tired, basicly i dream of us all figuring a way to get along, even if we disagree, and building a world for ourselves, so we no longer have to live in fear like rats

Im sorry i havent replied to this thread soon with anything more than banter lol Ive been somewhat busy with home life and not had much chance to sit and ponder on this asmuch as i would have liked to.
Im not one for using big words and i dont often anaylise things the way i know alot do but my words are from the heart and there ment..
My perfect community would begin with us as whole being accepted by eachother most importantly and then by society.
I say this because to be a strong unit we need to beleive in one another and gain the confidence to hold ourself respecfuly without the nonsense and bickering.
I want to be able to walk down the street and be respected for being a little diffrent and not to be frowned upon. Im not diffrent out of choice, iam "who" iam because iam "what" iam plain and simple.
I have accepted this and i want a place where i can be accepted outside of the online community.
I want compassion to be served with morning coffee and empathy for lunch then understanding for tea.
I want everyone to have there say and be heard, respected and understood.
In my community i would want there to be equality for all regaurdless of age, kin, sex, colour or creed. Im a firm believer in that respect has be earned before it can be given.
I could go into the fantasy world with this but then id be contradicticing myself, for instance I would love to have my own floating island way way above the clouds where i can feel safe and be with those whom wish me no harm but then that would mean me cutting my community off and thats not my intention so blah to that idea lol cool viz tho :) Maybe come back to that later...
There is so much more i would like to add but my eyes are tired and my mind is mushy.
This would be the start to my utopia though and given time i will add to it with pleasure...

My dream is really rather boring to read. It is not elaborate, in fact it is extremely simple.
My dream is not to segregate ourselves because of what we are, because I fear that segregation would mean not only that we would become even more feared and reviled, but that our culture would stagnate.
I dream that we become accepted as valued and respected individuals with something to offer. This would not mean that we would be assimilated and could not have our own culture as well.
Basically I dream of a nation within nations. One without borders. One that is comprised of all nationalities, races and creeds, but with a uniting culture based upon our natures.
A community of support that spans the entire world and is based upon respect, tolerance, understanding, empathy and support. This does not mean there would never be bickering or drama...to me this is actually necessary for stimulating thought and growth.
My dream world is a place where we did not have to hide what we are, but could celebrate it fully in all of it's potential richness.

Now who wouldn't like to live in a world described by Alyushia and Darklin. Gawd wouldn't it be so wonderful to live in that sort of environment.
Some people find they have 2 different reasons to hate me ----> being a vampire and being Bisexual/Gay or whatever. I have seen and experienced so much hate during my lifetime. I've sort of made myself isolated because I just don't want to be out there too much.
Alyushia
03-27-2007, 02:17 AM
I have become more isolated myself. I've grown very tired of the hate, and have very little tolerance for it...especially as I am getting older.
I find it all terribly sad.
I really don't think that my dream will ever be realised, but there isn't anything wrong with dreaming is there?
Chad: Gay, bi, vampire...all just labels. Words of convenience for those too lazy to get to know the individual. Those who want to hate will always be able to find at least one reason.

My perfect community is a place where those who are held in high esteem don't give stupid advice and think before they speak... where the elitist attitude of "This is how I do it, and I demand YOU do it this way to, because it works for me" is checked at the door... where a so-called elder can be disagreed with without he or she flying off the handle. Where egos and self service take a backseath to helping those that need to be helped. Where, jsut because you dislike someone, you can still recognize that they have something useful to offer....
A community where the drama, the lieing, the idiotic high school mentality has disappeared.
I, alot like Alyushia, have become isolated, almost everywhere I go, there's drama, there's morons, there's bad and sometimes blatantly illegal and unhealthy advice, there's elitism, there's cults..... I'm tired of it.

not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but there is a reason I spend alot of time alone. And thats because there are alot of these cults and groups in every setting.
It doesnt sit well with me that people are now talking to me in real life, asking my opinion and advice, trying to get me to be a counsellor. I want to help but I dont want to be seen.
Its the same with the OVC and the VC (although with this I have no experience). I like to help people, I like to offer advice when asked for it. In my limited capacity and limited experience I can only offer my take on things. And yes Craze, like you, it annoys me intensly when others seem to think that their way of processing, their way of interpretation is the only way. Its narrow minded and in every society it lets everyone down.
Craze
06-07-2007, 05:37 PM
Thats jsut it, thats all anyone can offer, THEIR experience. Its too many who take their experience as the ONLY one.
Alyushia
06-07-2007, 06:45 PM
Exactly...any advice comes from one's own experience, ons own unique view of the world. Everyone has had different experiences in life, therefore will have slightly differing advice.
To ME this a good thing. It add such a beautiful richness to the community.
There are those, unfortunately, who see different as frightening or just plain wrong.
One of the things that I appreciate about Nox is the lack of pontificating. I find it refreshing. We all just offer our points of view...what our experiences or opinions are....adding our threads to the rich tapestry. (sorry to wax poetic..lol)

Craze, i would have to say that the reason you, i, and others have become isolated as of late is more because we both have brains and we dont put up with the bullshit that inudates most of the communities out there, hence, the petty preppy fuckers blackball us, among other things. not that that matteres a whole hellovalot - those that know us, respect us, for both who and what we are.

oh to actually be a part of utopia....I have a little utopia in my mind, one that i can get away to whenever i want, a place where all are respected and respect theirselves, a place where everyone can agree to disagree and be civil enough to discuss their differences.
It's too bad we will never witness such on a large scale but we may be able to experience it large enough.
I watch the world at a distance because I dont trust it, there are so many hateful people out there it is almost a necessity, people who will stab you in the back, and those who will leave you when the going gets tough.

I think I have said before that it is not men or women I fear or feel to be a threat, its MAN. Gotta love that group mentality (or not as the case may be).

For me it's not fear, I fear nobody or no group, it's just that i loathe their ignorance and petty behaviorisms.
