Chapter 07
Life is Turned Upside Down
Well, I grew up wild and free. Walking these fields in my bare feet. There wasn't’t a place I could’t go. Well, I live in the city now but don’t fit in… You know it’s a pity the shape I’m in. Well, I got no permanent home and I got no chance. Damn, have mercy on a country boy.
When I was young I remember well. I’d go into the woods but never shot anything. The river was clear and deep back then. Well they damned the river, they damned the stream. . They cut down the Cyprus and the Sweet gum trees. There’s a Laundromat and a barber shop, and now the meadow is now a parking lot. And so it goes… I live in the city but don’t fit in. You know it’s a pity the shape I’m in. So, one and all, won’t someone have an answer for me. You hear me; it’s the shape I’m in.
Meeting Jon in New York City was the most and awesome for me. I being a vampire really turned my world upside down. I was elated; soaking up Jon’s every word and wanted to learn as much as Jon would talk. I think part of that was because I was pretty young I guess but was as glad as hear/read as much as possible … despite the age difference between Jon and me.
As I walked out tonight in the mystic garden the wounded flowers was passing wounded flowers were dangling from the vive. I was passing by yon cool crystal fountain. Somebody needs to kiss my... my country ass. My brief solitude had all sorts of people. In another time nothing will have a familiar tune to it probably.
In the human heart an evil spirit can dwell. In the Mystic garden the wounded flowers were dangling form the vine. Heart burningg’, still yearning. Well, the whole world is filled with speculation… eating hog eyed
Grease in a hog eyed town, Heart burnin’, still yearning. Someday you’ll be glad to have me around. If no one tells, I had it going great but there lots of secret things to take care of
They will crush you with wealth and power. Every wakening moment… Every waking moment you could crack. I’ll make the most of one less hour.
As we sat on some rocking chairs, on the porch, an evening haze was settling’ over town. Starlight by the edge of the creek. The buying power of the proletar gone down. Money’s getting shallow and weak. Well, the place I love best is a sweet memory. It’s a new path that we are going to tread. They say low wages are a reality, if you want to compete.
Well back to the story… In case anyone gets any negative comments about me, just consider the cost. LOL. Jon said he would spend 2 weeks every summer with me. Those countless hours really made me who I am today.
Jon had a hiding place in the Catskill Mountains somewhere. He described it as being sort of like a castle. But that’s all he would tell me. I swear Jon has this thing about throwing you some bait and then he reels you in. That’s what I gathered when we were in New York City. But, I think someone would be paying a high price for all. If they were chosen by Jon. That man ignored cash or money more than I have ever seen.
Nothing or no one ever has been able to break him and I know in my heart that may happen, but probably not. He also told me that night that we would be on the rush, partly because of his time limitation in his life
In New York we had a wonderful night. We ate at a very expensive restaurant several nights and then road in a limousine one night. Jon told me he invited a few people to go along. That outing was a gathering of more vampires than I had ever seen together in one place. After dinner we were off to some of the more popular bars/in town. I paid a high price for being out so late. It was 6:30 AM and I did not want to leave but I had to because I would be dealt sternly by my dad .
After we had this last night together. I left New York with my parents, on our way to Marblehead, Mass. I’d just as soon stay in New York with Jon but he said we had to lay down a good foundation and that we were in for one helluva trip.
As my parents and I headed north, I could hardly take in all the sights I had seen and the vast collection of writings and several books and one of the most well equipped gun collections I had ever seen. At this point I didn’t have a clue about handguns. “That’s OK Chad, don’t worry but I want you to go a shooting range just so I’d know which guns fit your built. I never saw him unlock the small gun cabinet he carried with him. “You are to never try to get into the gun cabinet, “Jon said. I got the clue right off… steal his guns and YOU WILL face the consequences.
While we were in New England, my dad got a phone call about someone in the church that died. So, that put a damper on our trip because my dad got in that land yacht we owned and hauled ass south on 95. I knew the trip was over. All I could think of was the time I spent with Jon. He told me that every time we got together we would have to work like hell trying to get more than enough in your brain.
I grew up working’ on a farm way down South… My very first job was picking cotton. When I was 10 years old No one told me how back breaking and hard work I would be facing. I picked enough cotton to fill 2 large burlap bags and thought I had hit the jackpot. But when the farmer totaled mine, I was down because cotton was paid by weighing. And, believe your ass it is exhausted picking cotton all day.
I got this one day job and decided with no regrets that I would resign my white ass because I had just about enough after two days in the cotton field.
Needless to say I went from a worker in the cotton field to New York City on vacation from working on a job. I didn’t think about adult things at this age. I had absolutely no clues about how to manage money. And damn, dad whipped my ass bad on the first game of chess that he bragged about that the rest of the day.
I went to school against my will, way down South. I kissed girls and watched squirrels making their selves ready for winter. I learned a lot about this world, way down South. I went to church every time the door opened, I still have unressolved issues about all that. I went to church, sang a lot of hymns, way down South. You will always find my heart way down South. Clothes on a clothes line, hangin’’ in the sunshine. A garden growing in the ground. I used to sit for hours watching tomatoes growing.
But anyhow, People driving’ past when I’m cutting grass waving’ at every single one. That’s the way it’s done when you come from way down South.
Swimming in the creek with all my friends, way down South. Praying’ those days would never end, way down South. Give me a worm and a fishing pole. I’ll pull a fish on out. These memories will never get old, way down South.
