African Vampire
Adze : A vampire spirit that dwells in tribal sorcerers among the Ewe, a people inhabiting parts of southeastern Ghana and southern Togo in Africa. The Adze flies around in the form of firefly but, if caught, changes into a human. In it's "natural" form it can be seen as a small hunchbacked, often misshapen humanoid, with jet black skin that does not fit it. It drinks blood, palm oil and coconut water and preys on children, especially handsome ones.
Asanbosam : A vampire found in Africa, known among the Ashanti of southern Ghana and by people in areas of the Ivory Coast and Togo. The Asanbosam is believed to reside in deep forests, most often encountered there by hunters. It is of general human shape, with two exceptions: its teeth are made out of iron and its legs have hook-like appendages. Anyone walking by the tree in which it resides will be scooped up and killed.
Impundulu: A vampiric servant of a witch found in the eastern Cape region of Africa. It was usually passed down from mother to daughter and was used to inflict suffering on ones enemies. It was said to have an insatiable appetite and had continuously feed, it also used to take the form of a handsome man and become a lover to its mistress.
Lamia: A Libyan vampire. According to legend Lamia was a Queen of Libya and all of her children were slain by the goddess Hera, and who in revenge still roams the earth feeding on infants. She is also said to entice men into sex and then devours them in a gruesome fashion.
Obayifo: A living vampire found among the Ashanti people of the Gold Coast in Africa. It is said to be a male or female human, which leaves its human body at night and feeds. Said to be particularly fond of young children, it can also cause blight in crops. Hunts in spirit fire form.
Otgiruru: Has the appearnce of a dog and it's victims are those that answer it's call.
Owenga/Oweng/Ovengua: (Guinea) Had books for feet and became a vampire by sucking the thumb of a sleeping person. Also said to be the reicarnation of evil sorcerers.
Sekeht- An Egyptian goddess most known for her vengeance on the people of Egypt . It is written in the book of Set that the gods grew angry with Egyptian people and it’s government because they were worshipping their country's kings and queens rather then the gods them selves. The gods grew very angry and upset with the Egyptian people and cast down their vengeance upon them by sending down Sekeht, after the people seen the death and chaos the gods have caused they relized there wrongs.

Surinam Vampire
Axeman: A vampire from Surinam that actually appears in the form of a bat. Invariably a woman, the axeman appears perfectly normal during the day, but after dark she changes into a bat. In this form, she flits about the village seeking her prey. Once she finds a sleeper whose foot is exposed, she carefully scrapes away a fragment of flesh from the big toe until blood trickles. She will then feed till she is engorged before returning home. Her victim will awaken feeling drained and weak. To prevent an axeman entering one's hut, simply prop a broom across the doorway.
Greek Vampire
Bruculaco: Hard swollen skin and spreads plague. He has a screaming call which is limitd to once a night, all that answer it become it's victims. To kill it you must decapitate it and boil or burn it's head.
Callicantzaros: According to Greek legend, a child born on Christmas Day will become a Callicantzaros. These vampires often appear in half human/half animal form.They have black skin and red-eyes.
Catacano: Spits acid-like blood at the victime to burn them. To kill him you must decapitate it and boil it's head in vinegar or isolate it behind salt water.
Empusas: A vampiric creature from Greek mythology usually said to be in attendance to the goddess Hecate. They are described as demons, which can from time to time take human form. Their most common incarnation seems to have been in the form of a Phoenician woman.
Kathakano: These creatures, which originated in Crete, are similar to original vampires. They can only be destroyed by chopping off their heads and boiling them in vinegar.
Keres, The: Described as dressed in red with sharp claws. They execute the commands of the Fates. Seen hovering over battlefields drinking the blood of their victims.
Lamia: (Ancient Greece) Servants of the witch-godess Hecate. Legend states that the first Lamia had an affair with Zeus. When discovered by Hera, she was cursed with an inhuman predatory form with a taste for infants and unable to bear young herself.
Mormo: A vampire from Greek mythology said to be a servant of the goddess Hecate. Considered to be a terrible denizen of the underworld.
Vyrolakos/Vrykolakas: A species of vampire found in the Adriatic and Agean regions. It is created by various means including an immoral life. It travels in the dark and knocks upon doors, calling out the name of someone inside, if the person responds they will die soon after. It gains further powers as it grows older.
Vrykolatios: A vampire species found on the island of Santorini (Greece) known as "Vampire Island". They are described as fiends, which banquet, on the living.
Assyria/Babylon Vampire
Sharabisu: (Babylon)
Ekimmu: One of the most feared of ancient vampires, found among the Assyrians and Babylonians. It is said to be a departed spirit, the soul of a dead person unable to find peace. The creature wondered over the earth waiting to attack. There were many ways in which a person could become an Ekimmu, among these were violent/premature death, unfulfilled love and improper burial.
Lilitu: (Babylon; Mesopotamia) This legend is the predecessor to all middle eastern seductress vampiric legends and became personified into Queen Lilith Appearing as females but in native form have birdlik talons and wings. They can also transform into a screech owl. Children and particularly infants are their favorite food, but healthy young men are also at risk.
Utukku: A Babylonian vampire spirit sometimes viewed as a demon. Generally believed to be the spirit of a recently deceased person that has returned from the grave for some unknown reason
South American Vampire
Asema: A vampiric old man or woman of South America that traveled as a ball of light to attack people while they slept.
Jaracacas: A Brazilian vampire, believed to appear in the form of a snake, it feeds on the breast of a woman, doing this by pushing the child out of the way and silencing the child by pushing its tail into the child’s mouth.
Lobishomen: A Brazilian vampire that preys mainly on women. It does not actually kill its victims preferring instead to draw small amounts of blood. After its attack the woman begins to display nymphomaniac tendencies.
Pishtaco: A vampire from Peru that feeds off of fat first then goes for your blood.
Pumapmicuc/Canchus: (Peru) A devil worshipper that sucks the blood from the young whle they sleep.
Madagascar Vampire
Ramanga: A living vampire found in Madagascar. A servant of the tribal elders the Ramanga would consume the nail clippings and spilled blood of a noble member of the tribe
Haiti Vampire
Azeto: An Evil loa Vampire. (Loa means spirit)
Gede- A Haitian vampire demon, this individual vampire demon/god we are still studying more in depth but to put the goddesses powers down in short " Goddess of the un-dead"
Arabic Vampire
Algul/Algula : An Arabic vampire, which translated means horseleech or a bloodsucking jinn. This form of vampire is traditionally a female demon that feasted upon dead babies and inhabited cemeteries.
Aulak: (meaning leech) Devourer of women and children.
Ghul: (Found in Arabian folktales) Mortals who have gained their vampiric powers through the use of sorceries and dark magicks.They also may have had the aid of demons to accomplish this task. Although they may remain beautiful for many years, soon their cannibalistic; degraded behaviuors become evident when they began to shrivel and grow claws and fangs.
India/Bengal Vampire
Baital/Baitala: A vampire from India is a half-man/half bat creature, which stands around 4ft tall.
Bhuta : A vampire from India normally created due to the violent death of an individual. The Bhuta are found in cemeteries or in dark desolate places, eating excrement or intestines. An attack by one of these creatures usually resulted in severe sickness or death.
Brahmaparush : A vampire from India that enjoys consuming human beings. This creature would drink a victim’s blood through its skull, than eat the brain from the skull and finally proceed to wrap the victim’s intestines around its body and perform a ritual dance.
Chedipe: (literally means prostitute) A woman riding a tiger that seduced the household and sucked the male head of house blood through his big toe.
Chordewa: A witch found among the Oraons, (Bengal) capable of turning her soul into a form of vampire cat. It is said that if the cat licks person’s lips that they will die soon after.
Churel: A vengeful ghostlike vampire found in India, normally a woman that died while pregnant during the Dewali Festival. She is said to hate life with her greatest spite being kept for her relatives. The Churel is said to be vile in appearance, possessing pendant breasts, thick ugly lips, a black tongue and unkempt hair.
Gayal: A vampiric spirit from India. Usually created due to the death of a man who has no one to properly perform the burial rites at his funeral. When he returns the Gayal reeks his revenge upon the sons of others and upon his on relatives. The threat of a relative returning as a Gayal usually ensures that the proper funeral rites are performed.
Hahn Saburo: Living in forests of India these vampires will attempt to drive or lure travelers into the forest to attack them. They also have the ability to control dogs.
Jigarkhwar: A vampiric sorceress found in the Sind region of India. She feeds by extracting a person’s liver through a piercing stare and various incantations. The liver is then cooked on a fire and eaten, at which time the victim dies.
Kali/Kalika (Mad Mother) : Has fangs or sharp teeth and black skin. She is seen as the dark goddess and is said to control the dark creatures. It is said she got her vampirism after having to drink the blood of Raktaviya, the King of Demons, in order to defeat him.
Kephn: Found in the tribes of Burma. It description is similar to the Penanggalan of Malaysia. It peferred meal was human souls. It is linked to a mortal suse of the the dark sorceries.
Masan: A vampire from India said to be usually the ghost of a child that delights in tormenting and killing children. The Masan is said to be able to curse a child that walks in its shadow. It will also follow a woman home should she allow her gown drag on the ground over his shadow.
Masani: A female vampire from India, she is said to be the spirit of burial grounds. She is black in appearance. Her hunts are conducted by night, starting as she emerges from a funeral pyre. Anyone passing the burial site will be attacked.
Pacu Pati: A powerful vampire from India. The creature is deemed lord of all beings of mischief. It is seem at night in cemeteries and places of execution.
Pisacha: A vampire from India, said to be a creature created by humanity’s vices. While it is in general an evil deity, its favorite past time being the consumption of fresh corpses, it can also cure diseases if enticed too.
Rakshasa: A vampire from India, whose name translates as "the injurer". The female assumes the form of a beautiful woman, luring man to their death. In the newer legends the Rakhassa is said to live in trees and induces vomiting and indigestion in people who stray into its territory. A child will be transformed into such a creature if he can be induced to eat human brains.
Thaye/Tasei: From Burma, they are evil persons condemned to be disembodied spirits which can appear as tall dark people with huge ears, long tongues and tusklike teeth. They enter town at noon or by dark and usually cause minor illness.
Vetal/Vetala: From India, these vampires live in corpses, which they leave at night to go in search of prey. For as long as they are the habitat of a vampire, the corpse will remain incorruptible. The body does become monstrous looking and does not resemle the host after inhabitation. They can be described as humanoid versions of the fruit bats that are native to the region.
China Vampire
Ch'ing Shih: A Chinese vampire that is caused by a cat jumping over the corpse. In their material form, these vampires have a livid appearance. Their immaterial form is a glowing sphere of light, much like a will-o-the-wisp. They may kill with poisonous breath as well a draining the blood of their victim. They also devour their victims. If a Ch'ing Shih encounters a pile of rice it must count the grains before it can pass. Normal weapons or sunlight can harm or destroy these vampires.
Kuang-shi/Hsi-hsue-kuei/K'uei: A Chinese vampire caused by the demonic posesson of a recently deceased corpse. Said to have a terrifying appearance, as it matures it gains new skills with the older among them rumored to have the ability to fly.
Russia Vampire
Eretica/ Erestun/ Eretik: A Russian vampire usually considered to be a heretic who has returned from the dead. It was in general said to be a woman who sold her soul in life and then returns in the form of a ragged old woman. At nightfall a group of Ereticy would gather in ravines and perform a form of sabbat. Said to be active only in spring and autumn, it was believed that seeing the eyes of such a creature would result in a slow withering death.
Siberian Vampire: From Russia, these are celestial vampires that needed human blood to warm and sustain them. It was believed they lurked high up in the sky, among the stars, waiting for cold, clear nights at which time they would fall to earth as meteors. They would then drink from the veins of slumbering nomads. These vampires were terrified of wakeful humans. The sight of vigilant humans watching the night sky was enough to shake them off course, sending them plummeting harmlessly to earth somewhere beyond the horizon.
Ubour/Upior/Upyr/Upi: A Russian vampire considered to be extremely vicious. It will first attack children and then continue on to kill the parents. As with the Upier the Upyr rises during the day and sleeps at night, and in doing so has a fairly human appearance.
Vourdalak: A Russian vampire, considered in Russian folklore to be a beautiful but evil woman.
Japan Vampire
Gaki: Walining corpses who thirst for blood. They have the traditional pale skin, hollow features and lack of body temperature. They have spectacular shapeshifting abilities and can change into not only animals, but also look like other humans. They can even impersonate a living person.
Hannya: Usually female. A hannya was once a truly beautiful woman that became insane and then possessed by a demon. She was transformed into a hideous creature that drank blood and ate children.
Kappa: A human shaped creature grotesque in appearance with a dent in it's head to hold water. To defeat it you must spill all the water out, which will cause it to loose it's powers. The Kappa dwelt in water, often ponds and attacked livestock by dargging them into the water and devouring them.
Kasha: A Japanese vampire that feeds by removing corpses from graves or prior to cremation and devouring them.
There are also tales of Vampire cats in Japan.
Italy Vampire
Larvae/Lamiae/Lemures: (Roman) Other names for the Lamia
Stregoni benefici: An Italian vampire said to be on the side of goodness, and a mortal enemy of all evil vampires.
Sanguisuga: Latin for Blood sucker
Strix: (Ancient Rome) Portrayed as witches as well as vampires. Mortal who gained vampiric powers through the black arts. Shapeshifter in to a bloodsucking bird of vague description.
America Vampire
Fifollet: Originated from the French word Feu-follet meaning Will-O-Wisp. It was the spirit an unbaptized child that played mischeivious pranks. In Lousiana it was combined with the Inccubus/Succubus mythology and took on Vampiric qualities.
England/France/Germany/Scotland/Spain Vampire
Alp : A German vampiric spirit associated with the bogeyman and the incubus, normally tormenting the nights and dreams of women. The creature’s physical manifestations can be very dangerous. Long connected with the nightmare, the alp is considered male, sometimes the spirit of a recently deceased relative, and most often an actual demon. Children can become an Alp when a mother uses a horse collar to ease childbirth. During the Middle Ages the alp was said to appear as a cat, pig, bird or other animal, including a lecherous demon dog scene in Cologne, thus linking the werewolf in with this legend. In all its manifestations the Alp is known to wear a hat. The spirit can fly like a bird, can ride like a horse and is credited with a certain gallant attitude, rarely forcing itself on its prey. The Alp drinks blood from the nipples of men and children but prefers the milk of women. Because it is so involved in terrors of the mind and sleep the Alp is virtually impossible to kill.
Baobhan-sith : A Scottish vampire that normally disguised itself as a beautiful maiden and lured its victims to there deaths. In fairy lore the Baobhan-sith usually appeared dressed in green.
Blutsauger: German vampire word that literally translates as "Blood Sucker" or "Blood Auger". It is almost a generic term for vampire, but can also be used for any blodd sucking animal as well. (e.g. ticks)
Brujos/Brujas: (Spain) Vampire sorcerers possibly stemming from fear of the practitioners of the Brujeria religion.
Doppelsauger/ Dubbelsuger: A German vampire found in northern regions, among the Wends (a Slavic race). The idea was that a child once weaned would become a vampire if s/he should nurse again. On its passing into a vampire the Doppelsauger will eat the fleshy parts of its breast and in so doing will draw out the life’s essence from a living relative.
Givach/Gierach: (Prussia) Red eys long fangs and a stench of the grave. To dispatch this vampire you had to confuse it with problem solving. Place a woollen sock for it to unravel or a fishing net in its grave.
incubus: (Europe) Without doubt one of the most famous forms of vampires, the male form of the Succubus, the incubus used to visit women at night, make love to them and torment their dreams. It posses all the characteristic properties of the vampire, with nightly visits to its victims, draining of life and strength and extreme sexual desire. Like vampires found among Gypsy and Slavic communities it can father children.
Melusine (ae): Associated with France and Germany and is listed as a water sprite or spirit. It is either turned into a mermaid or half dragon. Why it is listed under Vampire myths I do not know.
Nachzeher: A vampire found among the Kashubes of northern Europe. This vampire has the ability to kill its relatives by psychic means. While in its grave the vampire will begin to devour its shroud and then pieces of its own flesh. This causes living relatives to begin to waste away.
Neuntoter: A German vampire considered to be a great carrier of plagues and pestilence, traditionally only seen in times of great epidemics.Means "Nine Killer"
Succubus: A female vampire, a fiend that visits men in their sleep to torment there dreams and engages them in sex. The Succubus could render a victim totally exhausted in its pursuit of carnal pleasure.
Trazgos: (Spain) Vampire goblins The Trazgos feed on human blood." Animalitos "It's a little creature, about 4 inches high, black with soft arms and legs. It has the head of a lizard and the mouth of a dog. It likes to drink human blood and some wizards use it to cure their patients. Yet if the patient is cured the Animalito goes on feeding on the blood of its victim and finally takes the victim's soul to Hell."
Malaysia Vampire
Bajang : A Malysian vampire assumed to be male, appearing as a cat and normally threatening children. The Bajang can be enslaved and turned into a demon servant and is often handed down from one generation to the next within a family. It is kept in a tabong (bamboo vessel) which is protected by various charms. While imprisoned it is fed with eggs and will turn on its owner if not enough food is provided. The master of such a demon can send it out to inflict harm on his/her enemy, the enemy usually dying soon after of a mysterious disease. According to traditions the Bajang came from the body of a stillborn child, coaxed out of it by various incantations.
Langsuir: A Malysian vampire said always to take the form of a beautiful woman. A woman can become such a creature if she dies in childbirth. She is said to have extremely long nails, dress in green robes and have black hair, which hangs down to her ankles. She generally feeds on the blood of children.
Maneden: Lived in the wild pandanus plant. If the plant got attacked the creature would attach itself to a man's brow or a woman's nipple and sucked it's blod until given a nut or some other substitute.
Pelesit: A Malaysian spirit vampire. It invades a person’s body, causing illness and death. Victims will rant and rave while under its possession.
Penanggalan: A Malysian vampire, which flies at night with only the head and neck of its body complete and with its intestines dangling beneath them. The creature is always female and generally feeds on children or women in labor.
Polong: A vampiric imp from Malaysia, created by bottling the blood of a murdered man and performing certain archaic rituals over the bottle, a bond is made between the creator of the Polong and itself by allowing it to feed briefly each day on a finger. It is closely associated with Pelesit
Pontiannak:Related to the Langsoir in that when the mother dies in childbirth it becones a Langsoir. If the child is stillborn it becomes a Pontiannak. Have the ability to turn into screech owls.
Aztec/Mayan Vampire
Camazotz: A manbat with a sharp nose and is linked with the planting of corn in Mayan culture.
Cihuacoatl: (snake woman) Represented the hunger of the gods for human victims.(Also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe, La Llorona)
Cihuateteo: Still born child or a mother who died in childbirth who attacks and paralyses babies. It has white on it hands, feet and face and flies. They die if caught in sunlight.They are one of four chihuapipiltin (princesses) who accompany the Aztec goddess Tlalteuctli. The others are the coatlicue, cihuacoatl and itzpapalotl. This legend is similar to those of the Laimia and the Langsuyar.
Civatateo : A witch-vampire found among the Aztecs. Said to be a servant of various moon deities, and assumed to be noble women who died in childbirth. Children were there favorite victims, dying soon after attack of a wasting disease. These vampires were said to appear with white faces, there hands covered in white chalk, and with crossbones drawn on there clothing. The young ones are known as Civapipiltin. They maybe seen riding in groups on storm wind above crossroads or one of their shrines.
Coatlicue: (serpent skirt) Depicted as wearing a skirt of live snakes, and a necklace of human hearts with a skull pendant. They are one of four chihuapipiltin (princesses) who accompany the Aztec goddess Tlalteuctli. The others are the cihuateteo, cihuacoatl and itzpapalotl.
Itzapaplaotl: (Obsidian Knife Butterfly) Not as vampiric as the others. She is shown as the personification of the ritual knife.
Mictecacuatl: (Lord of Mictlampa) Mictlampa is the Place of Dead in Mexican mythology. Its Lord has a very black body with a skull in the place of a head. Accompanied by his wife, the Lady of the Mictlampa, mictecaciuatl.
Tlaciques:Vampiric witches found among the Nahuatl Indians of Mexico. They can turn into a ball of flame or into a turkey, in which form they can feed unnoticed.
Tlacteulty: a terror producing figure that was always depicted as a huge toad.
Tlahuelpuchi: A mixture of Tlalteuctli and Spanish witches - this vampire could transform itself into several different animal types (usually leaving its legs behind) and attacked infants, and rarely adults or children. Always female - the curse begins with menses and is a source of great shame to all her family.
Hebrew Vampire
Alukah: A type of succubi and vampire that was derived from Babylonian demonology.
Estrie: A Hebrew spirit, always female and invariably assuming the shape of a vampire. The Estrie is considered to be an incorporeal spirit of evil that has taken the form of flesh and blood, and lives among humanity to satisfy its need for blood. Its favorite prey is said to be children, although no one is considered safe when it needs to feed.
Motetz Dam: Hebrew term for vampire translated as "Blood Sucker".
West Indies Vampire
Loogaroo: A West Indian vampire said to go to a "Devil Tree"(a slik cotton tree) each night and remove its skin. It then flies off in search of its victims, in the form of a sulfurous ball. Often an old witch who has sold herself to the darkness in exchange for vampiric powers. Traditionally have a hag-like appearance. Can turn into a grey swine also.
Macedonia Vampire
Striges: (Macedonia) A female witch-vampire that could transform into a crow and would then drink the blood of humans. Classified among the living vampires.
Native Americans Vampires
Jumlin: Deeply rooted in the religious lore and Shamanism of the Lakota Sioux, Cherokee and Black Foot Nations. a medicine man who called forth an evil spirit to help his barren wife concieve. Upon entering this realm the spirit which fed off the blood of the living possessed Jumlin, the medicine man. he was very cruel and killeed all the men in the tribe. when his wife bore child, he took his son and fled. Soon they created more like themselves and still walk the earth today
Kwakiutl/Kwakiytl: A native American Peoples from British Colombia that practiced Cannibalism in it's hgher ranks of society. They ate their slaves by tearing them assunder and were the most powerful of secret societies. The Haida Indians of the Queen Charlotte Islands practiced similiar rites.
U`TLÛÑ'TÄ VAMPIRE: From cherokee myth, a bloddthirsy ogress who can shapechange and has rockhard skin. Her natie form is that of an old woman. She has a long hard forefinger made of bone in the shape of an awl ot spearhead on her right hand. Other names:'Spear-finger', Nûñ'yunu'ï, or 'Stone-dress'
Phillipines Vampire
Aswang : A vampire from the Philippines believed to be a beautiful female by day and a fearsome flying fiend by night. The Aswang can live a normal life during daylight hours. At night however the creature is led to the houses of its victims by night birds. Its nourishment is always blood, and it prefers to feed on children. The creature is recognized by its swollen form after feeding, it looks almost pregnant. If the Aswang licks a persons shadow it is believed that the person will die soon afterwards.
Bebarlangs: A tribe found in the Philippines that had members that practiced a form of psychic vampirism. They apparently sent out their astral bodies and fed on the life forces and vitality of individuals.
Danag: A Filipino vampire held to be very ancient as a species, responsible for having planted taro on the islands long ago. The Danag worked with humans for many years but the partnership ended one day when a woman cut her finger and a Danag sucked her wound, enjoying the taste so much that it drained her body completely of blood.
Portugal Vampire
Bruxsa : A female vampire from Portugal. The Bruxsa is normally transformed into vampiric form by witchcraft. She leaves her home at night in the form of a bird and her most frequent activity is tormenting weary lost travelers. She is said to appear as a beautiful maiden and leads a normal human life by day, bearing children, which in general become her regular form of food. She is said to be impossible to kill.
Ireland Vampire
Dearg-due: A dreaded creature of Ireland, whose name means "Red Blood Sucker." An ancient vampire that dates back to Celtic times, it is still feared. The only way to curb its appetite is to pile stones upon any grave suspected of housing such a beast. The most famous tale of the Dearg-due is the story of a beautiful woman supposedly buried in Waterford, in a small churchyard near Strongbows Tree. Several times a year she rises from her grave, using her stunning appearance to lure man to there doom.
Leanhaum-shee/Leanhaum-sidhe: An Irish fairy mistress, not actually a vampire but engaging in vampiric activities. She used her incredible beauty to lure men to her side and then used her charms to place them under her spell. The victim would then waste away as she slowly drained away his life’s essence through exhaustive lovemaking.
Eastern Europe Vampire
Avarcolac: (Romania)
Dakhanavar: (Armenia) An inhab itant of the valley near Mount Ararat that sucked the blood from the feet of travellers. One night he came upon two traveelers theat hid their feet under each others heads, he thought they were a two headed monster and was never seen again.
Farkaskoldus: (Hungary) a vampire that assumes the aspect of a werewolf upon death.
Kosac: (Croatia) Vampire
Kozlak: A Dalmatian vampire about whom very little is known. Prevalent among Croat beliefs
Krvopijac: From Bulgaria, these creatures have the appearance of a normal vampire, except they have only one nostril. Instead of fangs, they have either a pointed tongue or a barb at the end of their tongue. To destroy these vampires, one must immobilize them by placing wild roses around the grave. Then find a magician. The magician can destroy the vampire by ordering its spirit into a bottle, which is then thrown into a fire.
Kukuthi/Kukudhi/Lugat: A form of Albanian vampire said to be reasonably harmless, only feeding briefly on its victims, not actually killing them.Must return to its grave until it reaches maturity at thirty years and may travel as a merchant at his time. Some northern Albanian tribes believe this vampire can only be destroyed by a wolf.
Lampir: Bosnian for Vampire. Often in association with sever epidemics.
Liderc nadaly: (Hungary) It is similar to the vampire but differs in the way it must be put down. It can be killed by driving a nail through it's temple. To become a Lampir one must eat the flesh of an executed human.
Lupi Manari: (Croatia) Vampire
Mara: A Slavic vampire also found in the legends of the Kashube people of Canada. Said to be the spirit of an un-baptized dead girl, she is considered to be a terrible night visitor who crushes and oppresses her victims. In the Slavic legend once the Mara drinks the blood of a man she will fall in love with him and will return to plague his slumbers till his death. She is also said to be fond of feeding on the blood of children.
Mjertovjec: (Belarus) It has a purple face, active from midnight until three cock calls in the morning. It will follow a trail of poppy seeds back to it's tomb. this type of vampire is the result of the death of a witch, vampire or apostate. Or is the son of any of these listed above.
Moroii: A living Romanian vampire. It can be either male or female, and exhibits most of the characteristics of a Strigoii.
Mulo/Mullo: From Serbia, these vampires normally appear as people wearing white clothes. They are active by day and by night. They can assume the shapes of horses or sheep. They eat their victims and drink their blood. These creatures can be destroyed by cutting off their toes or by driving a nail through their neck.
Muroni: A kind of vampire found in the Wallachia region of Romania. It is said to have the ability to change itself into a variety of different animal forms. While in one of these incarnations the Muroni can kill easily, with misleading signs of attack being left.
Nelapsi: A Slovak vampire, which can cause serious harm to the living. The Nelapsi is said to be able to massacre entire villages in a single visit. It also has the ability to kill with a single glance.
Nosferatu: A Romanian species of vampire said to be the illegitimate child of parents who were illegitimate. Soon after its burial the Nosferatu embarks on a long career of destruction. It delights in tormenting and engaging in wild orgies with the living. The male can father children. The vampire hates newly married couples due to its own illegitimacy and wreaks its revenge on such couples by making the groom impotent and the bride barren
Ogolen:A Bohemian vampire that only appears in January and is equipped with mortal breath.
Olgolgen: (Czech Republic) This vampire roams. To dispatch it you must bury it at a crossroads. Said to carry dirt from it's tomb in it's navel. Another myth associtated with this name the vampire is naked except for it's death shroud and to stop it you must take the shroud.
Pijavica: A Slovenian vampire. It is created as a result of evils perpetrated during a person’s mortal life, particularly incest, which is guaranteed to cause ones, return as a member of the un-dead. It generally feeds on relatives or descendants.
Sampiro/Liugat:Albanians of Turkish descent were said turn into a vampires upon death. They were driven to go out at night in a shroud and high heel shoes to spread death and destruction. Stake through the heart is the preffered method of dispatchment.
Sriz: Goes to the top ogf the highest church steeple and called out names of villagers. If the persons names was called they were to be victim that night.
Strigoii: The infamous Romanian dead vampire. There numerous ways to become a Strigoii, including being a seventh son and suicide. Generally said to be friendly towards Gypsies.
Tenatz: (Montenegro) Spirits that took over the bodies of desceased persons and went out to suck blood. They changed into mice to enter and exit their gravesites.
Tenjac: (Croatia)
Ubour: A Bulgarian vampire, created when a person dies violently or the spirit refuses to leave the body. The corpse remains buried for forty days and then arises to cause mischief. It generally won't drink blood until its other sources of nourishment are gone, and as these include regular food the attacking of humans rarely occurs. The Ubour is said to create sparks by its movement.
Upir: A vampire found in the Ukraine that is noted for its desire to eat large amounts of fish.
Ustrel: A Bulgarian vampire that preyed exclusively on cattle. Thought to be the spirit of an un-baptized child that has recently died.
Vampir/Vampiir/Vampyras/Wampir/Wamphyr: From Serbia these creatures are naturally invisible and can only be seen by animals or dhampir. Dhampir, the living offspring of a vampire, and the only ones who can destroy them, would often hire themselves out for this very purpose.
Varacolaci/Varcolaci/Varcolac: Romanian vampire that ranks among the most powerful of all the un-dead. It is said to have the ability to cause both lunar and solar eclipses. They may appear as pale humans with dry skin. They can travel on an astral thread, the midnight spinning, traveling as far as need as long as the thread remains unbroken. Theyfall into a deep sleep when they cause the eclipses. If the host of the varcoloc spirit is moved, the spirit will not be able to return and the host sleeps eternally.

Veshtitza: From Montenegro and Serbia and very similar to the Stryx and Striga myths. The spirit leaves the body at night and possesses a hen or black moth. It flies around until it finds a home with infants and/or young children where it drinks their blood and eats their hearts. They came together to form covens which flocked in trees and shared whatr they caught earlier.
Viesczy/Vjiesce: Can be dispatched by sprinkling poppy seeds over their grave. they have a stinger under their tongue instead of fangs.
Volkodlak/Vukodlak: A species of vampire found in Slovenia, linked in some ways to various werewolf legends.
Zmeu: A vampiric figure found in Moldavia. It took the form of a flame and entered the room of a young girl or widow. Once inside the flame became a man who seduced her.
Poland Vampire
Ohyn: A vampire from Poland, caused by the presence of teeth and a caul at birth.
Upier: A Polish vampire that is unusual in the fact that it rises at mid day and returns to sleep at midnight. It is said to have a barbed tongue and consumes vast quantities of blood. This creature’s fascination with blood goes much further than normal vampires as it sleeps in blood as well.
Australia Vampire
Talamaur: A living vampire found in Australia. This creature could communicate with the spirit world, making one of these spirits its servant, which it could then send among the living. One version of the Talamaur could send out its soul to drain the remaining life essence from a fresh corpse.
Yara-ma-yha-who:A beast-like creature from Aboriginal myth who lived in the fig and attacked anyone who passed or slept under their tree. the creature would drink the victims blood, but not enough to kill it. Sometimes it ate the victim whole and spit them back out later. The more someone got attacked the more like the creature it became til eventually it totally transformed.
Tibet Vampire
Dakini/Khandro: Spirit of war similar to the arabic ghul. A "wordly dakini".
Gnod Sbyi: Genius vampires that cause dusease and require blood sacrifices.
Ro-lang: Drinkers of blood or robbers of vital breath. Haunt creamatioin grounds.
Srin-Po: Demon vampires that assume the shape of a man.
African Vampire
Adze : A vampire spirit that dwells in tribal sorcerers among the Ewe, a people inhabiting parts of southeastern Ghana and southern Togo in Africa. The Adze flies around in the form of firefly but, if caught, changes into a human. In it's "natural" form it can be seen as a small hunchbacked, often misshapen humanoid, with jet black skin that does not fit it. It drinks blood, palm oil and coconut water and preys on children, especially handsome ones.
Asanbosam : A vampire found in Africa, known among the Ashanti of southern Ghana and by people in areas of the Ivory Coast and Togo. The Asanbosam is believed to reside in deep forests, most often encountered there by hunters. It is of general human shape, with two exceptions: its teeth are made out of iron and its legs have hook-like appendages. Anyone walking by the tree in which it resides will be scooped up and killed.
Impundulu: A vampiric servant of a witch found in the eastern Cape region of Africa. It was usually passed down from mother to daughter and was used to inflict suffering on ones enemies. It was said to have an insatiable appetite and had continuously feed, it also used to take the form of a handsome man and become a lover to its mistress.
Lamia: A Libyan vampire. According to legend Lamia was a Queen of Libya and all of her children were slain by the goddess Hera, and who in revenge still roams the earth feeding on infants. She is also said to entice men into sex and then devours them in a gruesome fashion.
Obayifo: A living vampire found among the Ashanti people of the Gold Coast in Africa. It is said to be a male or female human, which leaves its human body at night and feeds. Said to be particularly fond of young children, it can also cause blight in crops. Hunts in spirit fire form.
Otgiruru: Has the appearnce of a dog and it's victims are those that answer it's call.
Owenga/Oweng/Ovengua: (Guinea) Had books for feet and became a vampire by sucking the thumb of a sleeping person. Also said to be the reicarnation of evil sorcerers.
Sekeht- An Egyptian goddess most known for her vengeance on the people of Egypt . It is written in the book of Set that the gods grew angry with Egyptian people and it’s government because they were worshipping their country's kings and queens rather then the gods them selves. The gods grew very angry and upset with the Egyptian people and cast down their vengeance upon them by sending down Sekeht, after the people seen the death and chaos the gods have caused they relized there wrongs.

Surinam Vampire
Axeman: A vampire from Surinam that actually appears in the form of a bat. Invariably a woman, the axeman appears perfectly normal during the day, but after dark she changes into a bat. In this form, she flits about the village seeking her prey. Once she finds a sleeper whose foot is exposed, she carefully scrapes away a fragment of flesh from the big toe until blood trickles. She will then feed till she is engorged before returning home. Her victim will awaken feeling drained and weak. To prevent an axeman entering one's hut, simply prop a broom across the doorway.
Greek Vampire
Bruculaco: Hard swollen skin and spreads plague. He has a screaming call which is limitd to once a night, all that answer it become it's victims. To kill it you must decapitate it and boil or burn it's head.
Callicantzaros: According to Greek legend, a child born on Christmas Day will become a Callicantzaros. These vampires often appear in half human/half animal form.They have black skin and red-eyes.
Catacano: Spits acid-like blood at the victime to burn them. To kill him you must decapitate it and boil it's head in vinegar or isolate it behind salt water.
Empusas: A vampiric creature from Greek mythology usually said to be in attendance to the goddess Hecate. They are described as demons, which can from time to time take human form. Their most common incarnation seems to have been in the form of a Phoenician woman.
Kathakano: These creatures, which originated in Crete, are similar to original vampires. They can only be destroyed by chopping off their heads and boiling them in vinegar.
Keres, The: Described as dressed in red with sharp claws. They execute the commands of the Fates. Seen hovering over battlefields drinking the blood of their victims.
Lamia: (Ancient Greece) Servants of the witch-godess Hecate. Legend states that the first Lamia had an affair with Zeus. When discovered by Hera, she was cursed with an inhuman predatory form with a taste for infants and unable to bear young herself.
Mormo: A vampire from Greek mythology said to be a servant of the goddess Hecate. Considered to be a terrible denizen of the underworld.
Vyrolakos/Vrykolakas: A species of vampire found in the Adriatic and Agean regions. It is created by various means including an immoral life. It travels in the dark and knocks upon doors, calling out the name of someone inside, if the person responds they will die soon after. It gains further powers as it grows older.
Vrykolatios: A vampire species found on the island of Santorini (Greece) known as "Vampire Island". They are described as fiends, which banquet, on the living.
Assyria/Babylon Vampire
Sharabisu: (Babylon)
Ekimmu: One of the most feared of ancient vampires, found among the Assyrians and Babylonians. It is said to be a departed spirit, the soul of a dead person unable to find peace. The creature wondered over the earth waiting to attack. There were many ways in which a person could become an Ekimmu, among these were violent/premature death, unfulfilled love and improper burial.
Lilitu: (Babylon; Mesopotamia) This legend is the predecessor to all middle eastern seductress vampiric legends and became personified into Queen Lilith Appearing as females but in native form have birdlik talons and wings. They can also transform into a screech owl. Children and particularly infants are their favorite food, but healthy young men are also at risk.
Utukku: A Babylonian vampire spirit sometimes viewed as a demon. Generally believed to be the spirit of a recently deceased person that has returned from the grave for some unknown reason
South American Vampire
Asema: A vampiric old man or woman of South America that traveled as a ball of light to attack people while they slept.
Jaracacas: A Brazilian vampire, believed to appear in the form of a snake, it feeds on the breast of a woman, doing this by pushing the child out of the way and silencing the child by pushing its tail into the child’s mouth.
Lobishomen: A Brazilian vampire that preys mainly on women. It does not actually kill its victims preferring instead to draw small amounts of blood. After its attack the woman begins to display nymphomaniac tendencies.
Pishtaco: A vampire from Peru that feeds off of fat first then goes for your blood.
Pumapmicuc/Canchus: (Peru) A devil worshipper that sucks the blood from the young whle they sleep.
Madagascar Vampire
Ramanga: A living vampire found in Madagascar. A servant of the tribal elders the Ramanga would consume the nail clippings and spilled blood of a noble member of the tribe

Arabic Vampire
Algul/Algula : An Arabic vampire, which translated means horseleech or a bloodsucking jinn. This form of vampire is traditionally a female demon that feasted upon dead babies and inhabited cemeteries.
Aulak: (meaning leech) Devourer of women and children.
Ghul: (Found in Arabian folktales) Mortals who have gained their vampiric powers through the use of sorceries and dark magicks.They also may have had the aid of demons to accomplish this task. Although they may remain beautiful for many years, soon their cannibalistic; degraded behaviuors become evident when they began to shrivel and grow claws and fangs.
India/Bengal Vampire
Baital/Baitala: A vampire from India is a half-man/half bat creature, which stands around 4ft tall.
Bhuta : A vampire from India normally created due to the violent death of an individual. The Bhuta are found in cemeteries or in dark desolate places, eating excrement or intestines. An attack by one of these creatures usually resulted in severe sickness or death.
Brahmaparush : A vampire from India that enjoys consuming human beings. This creature would drink a victim’s blood through its skull, than eat the brain from the skull and finally proceed to wrap the victim’s intestines around its body and perform a ritual dance.
Chedipe: (literally means prostitute) A woman riding a tiger that seduced the household and sucked the male head of house blood through his big toe.
Chordewa: A witch found among the Oraons, (Bengal) capable of turning her soul into a form of vampire cat. It is said that if the cat licks person’s lips that they will die soon after.
Churel: A vengeful ghostlike vampire found in India, normally a woman that died while pregnant during the Dewali Festival. She is said to hate life with her greatest spite being kept for her relatives. The Churel is said to be vile in appearance, possessing pendant breasts, thick ugly lips, a black tongue and unkempt hair.
Gayal: A vampiric spirit from India. Usually created due to the death of a man who has no one to properly perform the burial rites at his funeral. When he returns the Gayal reeks his revenge upon the sons of others and upon his on relatives. The threat of a relative returning as a Gayal usually ensures that the proper funeral rites are performed.
Hahn Saburo: Living in forests of India these vampires will attempt to drive or lure travelers into the forest to attack them. They also have the ability to control dogs.
Jigarkhwar: A vampiric sorceress found in the Sind region of India. She feeds by extracting a person’s liver through a piercing stare and various incantations. The liver is then cooked on a fire and eaten, at which time the victim dies.
Kali/Kalika (Mad Mother) : Has fangs or sharp teeth and black skin. She is seen as the dark goddess and is said to control the dark creatures. It is said she got her vampirism after having to drink the blood of Raktaviya, the King of Demons, in order to defeat him.
Kephn: Found in the tribes of Burma. It description is similar to the Penanggalan of Malaysia. It peferred meal was human souls. It is linked to a mortal suse of the the dark sorceries.
Masan: A vampire from India said to be usually the ghost of a child that delights in tormenting and killing children. The Masan is said to be able to curse a child that walks in its shadow. It will also follow a woman home should she allow her gown drag on the ground over his shadow.
Masani: A female vampire from India, she is said to be the spirit of burial grounds. She is black in appearance. Her hunts are conducted by night, starting as she emerges from a funeral pyre. Anyone passing the burial site will be attacked.
Pacu Pati: A powerful vampire from India. The creature is deemed lord of all beings of mischief. It is seem at night in cemeteries and places of execution.
Pisacha: A vampire from India, said to be a creature created by humanity’s vices. While it is in general an evil deity, its favorite past time being the consumption of fresh corpses, it can also cure diseases if enticed too.
Rakshasa: A vampire from India, whose name translates as "the injurer". The female assumes the form of a beautiful woman, luring man to their death. In the newer legends the Rakhassa is said to live in trees and induces vomiting and indigestion in people who stray into its territory. A child will be transformed into such a creature if he can be induced to eat human brains.
Thaye/Tasei: From Burma, they are evil persons condemned to be disembodied spirits which can appear as tall dark people with huge ears, long tongues and tusklike teeth. They enter town at noon or by dark and usually cause minor illness.
Vetal/Vetala: From India, these vampires live in corpses, which they leave at night to go in search of prey. For as long as they are the habitat of a vampire, the corpse will remain incorruptible. The body does become monstrous looking and does not resemle the host after inhabitation. They can be described as humanoid versions of the fruit bats that are native to the region.
China Vampire
Ch'ing Shih: A Chinese vampire that is caused by a cat jumping over the corpse. In their material form, these vampires have a livid appearance. Their immaterial form is a glowing sphere of light, much like a will-o-the-wisp. They may kill with poisonous breath as well a draining the blood of their victim. They also devour their victims. If a Ch'ing Shih encounters a pile of rice it must count the grains before it can pass. Normal weapons or sunlight can harm or destroy these vampires.
Kuang-shi/Hsi-hsue-kuei/K'uei: A Chinese vampire caused by the demonic posesson of a recently deceased corpse. Said to have a terrifying appearance, as it matures it gains new skills with the older among them rumored to have the ability to fly.
Russia Vampire
Eretica/ Erestun/ Eretik: A Russian vampire usually considered to be a heretic who has returned from the dead. It was in general said to be a woman who sold her soul in life and then returns in the form of a ragged old woman. At nightfall a group of Ereticy would gather in ravines and perform a form of sabbat. Said to be active only in spring and autumn, it was believed that seeing the eyes of such a creature would result in a slow withering death.
Siberian Vampire: From Russia, these are celestial vampires that needed human blood to warm and sustain them. It was believed they lurked high up in the sky, among the stars, waiting for cold, clear nights at which time they would fall to earth as meteors. They would then drink from the veins of slumbering nomads. These vampires were terrified of wakeful humans. The sight of vigilant humans watching the night sky was enough to shake them off course, sending them plummeting harmlessly to earth somewhere beyond the horizon.
Ubour/Upior/Upyr/Upi: A Russian vampire considered to be extremely vicious. It will first attack children and then continue on to kill the parents. As with the Upier the Upyr rises during the day and sleeps at night, and in doing so has a fairly human appearance.
Vourdalak: A Russian vampire, considered in Russian folklore to be a beautiful but evil woman.
Japan Vampire
Gaki: Walining corpses who thirst for blood. They have the traditional pale skin, hollow features and lack of body temperature. They have spectacular shapeshifting abilities and can change into not only animals, but also look like other humans. They can even impersonate a living person.
Hannya: Usually female. A hannya was once a truly beautiful woman that became insane and then possessed by a demon. She was transformed into a hideous creature that drank blood and ate children.
Kappa: A human shaped creature grotesque in appearance with a dent in it's head to hold water. To defeat it you must spill all the water out, which will cause it to loose it's powers. The Kappa dwelt in water, often ponds and attacked livestock by dargging them into the water and devouring them.
Kasha: A Japanese vampire that feeds by removing corpses from graves or prior to cremation and devouring them.

Stregoni benefici: An Italian vampire said to be on the side of goodness, and a mortal enemy of all evil vampires.
Sanguisuga: Latin for Blood sucker
Strix: (Ancient Rome) Portrayed as witches as well as vampires. Mortal who gained vampiric powers through the black arts. Shapeshifter in to a bloodsucking bird of vague description.
America Vampire
Fifollet: Originated from the French word Feu-follet meaning Will-O-Wisp. It was the spirit an unbaptized child that played mischeivious pranks. In Lousiana it was combined with the Inccubus/Succubus mythology and took on Vampiric qualities.
England/France/Germany/Scotland/Spain Vampire
Alp : A German vampiric spirit associated with the bogeyman and the incubus, normally tormenting the nights and dreams of women. The creature’s physical manifestations can be very dangerous. Long connected with the nightmare, the alp is considered male, sometimes the spirit of a recently deceased relative, and most often an actual demon. Children can become an Alp when a mother uses a horse collar to ease childbirth. During the Middle Ages the alp was said to appear as a cat, pig, bird or other animal, including a lecherous demon dog scene in Cologne, thus linking the werewolf in with this legend. In all its manifestations the Alp is known to wear a hat. The spirit can fly like a bird, can ride like a horse and is credited with a certain gallant attitude, rarely forcing itself on its prey. The Alp drinks blood from the nipples of men and children but prefers the milk of women. Because it is so involved in terrors of the mind and sleep the Alp is virtually impossible to kill.
Baobhan-sith : A Scottish vampire that normally disguised itself as a beautiful maiden and lured its victims to there deaths. In fairy lore the Baobhan-sith usually appeared dressed in green.
Blutsauger: German vampire word that literally translates as "Blood Sucker" or "Blood Auger". It is almost a generic term for vampire, but can also be used for any blodd sucking animal as well. (e.g. ticks)
Brujos/Brujas: (Spain) Vampire sorcerers possibly stemming from fear of the practitioners of the Brujeria religion.
Doppelsauger/ Dubbelsuger: A German vampire found in northern regions, among the Wends (a Slavic race). The idea was that a child once weaned would become a vampire if s/he should nurse again. On its passing into a vampire the Doppelsauger will eat the fleshy parts of its breast and in so doing will draw out the life’s essence from a living relative.
Givach/Gierach: (Prussia) Red eys long fangs and a stench of the grave. To dispatch this vampire you had to confuse it with problem solving. Place a woollen sock for it to unravel or a fishing net in its grave.
incubus: (Europe) Without doubt one of the most famous forms of vampires, the male form of the Succubus, the incubus used to visit women at night, make love to them and torment their dreams. It posses all the characteristic properties of the vampire, with nightly visits to its victims, draining of life and strength and extreme sexual desire. Like vampires found among Gypsy and Slavic communities it can father children.
Melusine (ae): Associated with France and Germany and is listed as a water sprite or spirit. It is either turned into a mermaid or half dragon. Why it is listed under Vampire myths I do not know.
Nachzeher: A vampire found among the Kashubes of northern Europe. This vampire has the ability to kill its relatives by psychic means. While in its grave the vampire will begin to devour its shroud and then pieces of its own flesh. This causes living relatives to begin to waste away.
Neuntoter: A German vampire considered to be a great carrier of plagues and pestilence, traditionally only seen in times of great epidemics.Means "Nine Killer"
Succubus: A female vampire, a fiend that visits men in their sleep to torment there dreams and engages them in sex. The Succubus could render a victim totally exhausted in its pursuit of carnal pleasure.
Trazgos: (Spain) Vampire goblins The Trazgos feed on human blood." Animalitos "It's a little creature, about 4 inches high, black with soft arms and legs. It has the head of a lizard and the mouth of a dog. It likes to drink human blood and some wizards use it to cure their patients. Yet if the patient is cured the Animalito goes on feeding on the blood of its victim and finally takes the victim's soul to Hell."
Malaysia Vampire
Bajang : A Malysian vampire assumed to be male, appearing as a cat and normally threatening children. The Bajang can be enslaved and turned into a demon servant and is often handed down from one generation to the next within a family. It is kept in a tabong (bamboo vessel) which is protected by various charms. While imprisoned it is fed with eggs and will turn on its owner if not enough food is provided. The master of such a demon can send it out to inflict harm on his/her enemy, the enemy usually dying soon after of a mysterious disease. According to traditions the Bajang came from the body of a stillborn child, coaxed out of it by various incantations.
Langsuir: A Malysian vampire said always to take the form of a beautiful woman. A woman can become such a creature if she dies in childbirth. She is said to have extremely long nails, dress in green robes and have black hair, which hangs down to her ankles. She generally feeds on the blood of children.
Maneden: Lived in the wild pandanus plant. If the plant got attacked the creature would attach itself to a man's brow or a woman's nipple and sucked it's blod until given a nut or some other substitute.
Pelesit: A Malaysian spirit vampire. It invades a person’s body, causing illness and death. Victims will rant and rave while under its possession.
Penanggalan: A Malysian vampire, which flies at night with only the head and neck of its body complete and with its intestines dangling beneath them. The creature is always female and generally feeds on children or women in labor.
Polong: A vampiric imp from Malaysia, created by bottling the blood of a murdered man and performing certain archaic rituals over the bottle, a bond is made between the creator of the Polong and itself by allowing it to feed briefly each day on a finger. It is closely associated with Pelesit
Pontiannak:Related to the Langsoir in that when the mother dies in childbirth it becones a Langsoir. If the child is stillborn it becomes a Pontiannak. Have the ability to turn into screech owls.
Aztec/Mayan Vampire
Camazotz: A manbat with a sharp nose and is linked with the planting of corn in Mayan culture.
Cihuacoatl: (snake woman) Represented the hunger of the gods for human victims.(Also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe, La Llorona)
Cihuateteo: Still born child or a mother who died in childbirth who attacks and paralyses babies. It has white on it hands, feet and face and flies. They die if caught in sunlight.They are one of four chihuapipiltin (princesses) who accompany the Aztec goddess Tlalteuctli. The others are the coatlicue, cihuacoatl and itzpapalotl. This legend is similar to those of the Laimia and the Langsuyar.
Civatateo : A witch-vampire found among the Aztecs. Said to be a servant of various moon deities, and assumed to be noble women who died in childbirth. Children were there favorite victims, dying soon after attack of a wasting disease. These vampires were said to appear with white faces, there hands covered in white chalk, and with crossbones drawn on there clothing. The young ones are known as Civapipiltin. They maybe seen riding in groups on storm wind above crossroads or one of their shrines.
Coatlicue: (serpent skirt) Depicted as wearing a skirt of live snakes, and a necklace of human hearts with a skull pendant. They are one of four chihuapipiltin (princesses) who accompany the Aztec goddess Tlalteuctli. The others are the cihuateteo, cihuacoatl and itzpapalotl.
Itzapaplaotl: (Obsidian Knife Butterfly) Not as vampiric as the others. She is shown as the personification of the ritual knife.
Mictecacuatl: (Lord of Mictlampa) Mictlampa is the Place of Dead in Mexican mythology. Its Lord has a very black body with a skull in the place of a head. Accompanied by his wife, the Lady of the Mictlampa, mictecaciuatl.
Tlaciques:Vampiric witches found among the Nahuatl Indians of Mexico. They can turn into a ball of flame or into a turkey, in which form they can feed unnoticed.
Tlacteulty: a terror producing figure that was always depicted as a huge toad.
Tlahuelpuchi: A mixture of Tlalteuctli and Spanish witches - this vampire could transform itself into several different animal types (usually leaving its legs behind) and attacked infants, and rarely adults or children. Always female - the curse begins with menses and is a source of great shame to all her family.

Alukah: A type of succubi and vampire that was derived from Babylonian demonology.
Estrie: A Hebrew spirit, always female and invariably assuming the shape of a vampire. The Estrie is considered to be an incorporeal spirit of evil that has taken the form of flesh and blood, and lives among humanity to satisfy its need for blood. Its favorite prey is said to be children, although no one is considered safe when it needs to feed.

Loogaroo: A West Indian vampire said to go to a "Devil Tree"(a slik cotton tree) each night and remove its skin. It then flies off in search of its victims, in the form of a sulfurous ball. Often an old witch who has sold herself to the darkness in exchange for vampiric powers. Traditionally have a hag-like appearance. Can turn into a grey swine also.
Macedonia Vampire
Striges: (Macedonia) A female witch-vampire that could transform into a crow and would then drink the blood of humans. Classified among the living vampires.
Native Americans Vampires
Jumlin: Deeply rooted in the religious lore and Shamanism of the Lakota Sioux, Cherokee and Black Foot Nations. a medicine man who called forth an evil spirit to help his barren wife concieve. Upon entering this realm the spirit which fed off the blood of the living possessed Jumlin, the medicine man. he was very cruel and killeed all the men in the tribe. when his wife bore child, he took his son and fled. Soon they created more like themselves and still walk the earth today
Kwakiutl/Kwakiytl: A native American Peoples from British Colombia that practiced Cannibalism in it's hgher ranks of society. They ate their slaves by tearing them assunder and were the most powerful of secret societies. The Haida Indians of the Queen Charlotte Islands practiced similiar rites.
U`TLÛÑ'TÄ VAMPIRE: From cherokee myth, a bloddthirsy ogress who can shapechange and has rockhard skin. Her natie form is that of an old woman. She has a long hard forefinger made of bone in the shape of an awl ot spearhead on her right hand. Other names:'Spear-finger', Nûñ'yunu'ï, or 'Stone-dress'
Phillipines Vampire
Aswang : A vampire from the Philippines believed to be a beautiful female by day and a fearsome flying fiend by night. The Aswang can live a normal life during daylight hours. At night however the creature is led to the houses of its victims by night birds. Its nourishment is always blood, and it prefers to feed on children. The creature is recognized by its swollen form after feeding, it looks almost pregnant. If the Aswang licks a persons shadow it is believed that the person will die soon afterwards.
Bebarlangs: A tribe found in the Philippines that had members that practiced a form of psychic vampirism. They apparently sent out their astral bodies and fed on the life forces and vitality of individuals.
Danag: A Filipino vampire held to be very ancient as a species, responsible for having planted taro on the islands long ago. The Danag worked with humans for many years but the partnership ended one day when a woman cut her finger and a Danag sucked her wound, enjoying the taste so much that it drained her body completely of blood.
Portugal Vampire
Bruxsa : A female vampire from Portugal. The Bruxsa is normally transformed into vampiric form by witchcraft. She leaves her home at night in the form of a bird and her most frequent activity is tormenting weary lost travelers. She is said to appear as a beautiful maiden and leads a normal human life by day, bearing children, which in general become her regular form of food. She is said to be impossible to kill.
Ireland Vampire
Dearg-due: A dreaded creature of Ireland, whose name means "Red Blood Sucker." An ancient vampire that dates back to Celtic times, it is still feared. The only way to curb its appetite is to pile stones upon any grave suspected of housing such a beast. The most famous tale of the Dearg-due is the story of a beautiful woman supposedly buried in Waterford, in a small churchyard near Strongbows Tree. Several times a year she rises from her grave, using her stunning appearance to lure man to there doom.
Leanhaum-shee/Leanhaum-sidhe: An Irish fairy mistress, not actually a vampire but engaging in vampiric activities. She used her incredible beauty to lure men to her side and then used her charms to place them under her spell. The victim would then waste away as she slowly drained away his life’s essence through exhaustive lovemaking.

Avarcolac: (Romania)
Dakhanavar: (Armenia) An inhab itant of the valley near Mount Ararat that sucked the blood from the feet of travellers. One night he came upon two traveelers theat hid their feet under each others heads, he thought they were a two headed monster and was never seen again.
Farkaskoldus: (Hungary) a vampire that assumes the aspect of a werewolf upon death.
Kosac: (Croatia) Vampire
Kozlak: A Dalmatian vampire about whom very little is known. Prevalent among Croat beliefs
Krvopijac: From Bulgaria, these creatures have the appearance of a normal vampire, except they have only one nostril. Instead of fangs, they have either a pointed tongue or a barb at the end of their tongue. To destroy these vampires, one must immobilize them by placing wild roses around the grave. Then find a magician. The magician can destroy the vampire by ordering its spirit into a bottle, which is then thrown into a fire.
Kukuthi/Kukudhi/Lugat: A form of Albanian vampire said to be reasonably harmless, only feeding briefly on its victims, not actually killing them.Must return to its grave until it reaches maturity at thirty years and may travel as a merchant at his time. Some northern Albanian tribes believe this vampire can only be destroyed by a wolf.
Lampir: Bosnian for Vampire. Often in association with sever epidemics.
Liderc nadaly: (Hungary) It is similar to the vampire but differs in the way it must be put down. It can be killed by driving a nail through it's temple. To become a Lampir one must eat the flesh of an executed human.
Lupi Manari: (Croatia) Vampire
Mara: A Slavic vampire also found in the legends of the Kashube people of Canada. Said to be the spirit of an un-baptized dead girl, she is considered to be a terrible night visitor who crushes and oppresses her victims. In the Slavic legend once the Mara drinks the blood of a man she will fall in love with him and will return to plague his slumbers till his death. She is also said to be fond of feeding on the blood of children.
Mjertovjec: (Belarus) It has a purple face, active from midnight until three cock calls in the morning. It will follow a trail of poppy seeds back to it's tomb. this type of vampire is the result of the death of a witch, vampire or apostate. Or is the son of any of these listed above.
Moroii: A living Romanian vampire. It can be either male or female, and exhibits most of the characteristics of a Strigoii.
Mulo/Mullo: From Serbia, these vampires normally appear as people wearing white clothes. They are active by day and by night. They can assume the shapes of horses or sheep. They eat their victims and drink their blood. These creatures can be destroyed by cutting off their toes or by driving a nail through their neck.
Muroni: A kind of vampire found in the Wallachia region of Romania. It is said to have the ability to change itself into a variety of different animal forms. While in one of these incarnations the Muroni can kill easily, with misleading signs of attack being left.
Nelapsi: A Slovak vampire, which can cause serious harm to the living. The Nelapsi is said to be able to massacre entire villages in a single visit. It also has the ability to kill with a single glance.
Nosferatu: A Romanian species of vampire said to be the illegitimate child of parents who were illegitimate. Soon after its burial the Nosferatu embarks on a long career of destruction. It delights in tormenting and engaging in wild orgies with the living. The male can father children. The vampire hates newly married couples due to its own illegitimacy and wreaks its revenge on such couples by making the groom impotent and the bride barren
Ogolen:A Bohemian vampire that only appears in January and is equipped with mortal breath.
Olgolgen: (Czech Republic) This vampire roams. To dispatch it you must bury it at a crossroads. Said to carry dirt from it's tomb in it's navel. Another myth associtated with this name the vampire is naked except for it's death shroud and to stop it you must take the shroud.
Pijavica: A Slovenian vampire. It is created as a result of evils perpetrated during a person’s mortal life, particularly incest, which is guaranteed to cause ones, return as a member of the un-dead. It generally feeds on relatives or descendants.
Sampiro/Liugat:Albanians of Turkish descent were said turn into a vampires upon death. They were driven to go out at night in a shroud and high heel shoes to spread death and destruction. Stake through the heart is the preffered method of dispatchment.
Sriz: Goes to the top ogf the highest church steeple and called out names of villagers. If the persons names was called they were to be victim that night.
Strigoii: The infamous Romanian dead vampire. There numerous ways to become a Strigoii, including being a seventh son and suicide. Generally said to be friendly towards Gypsies.
Tenatz: (Montenegro) Spirits that took over the bodies of desceased persons and went out to suck blood. They changed into mice to enter and exit their gravesites.
Tenjac: (Croatia)
Ubour: A Bulgarian vampire, created when a person dies violently or the spirit refuses to leave the body. The corpse remains buried for forty days and then arises to cause mischief. It generally won't drink blood until its other sources of nourishment are gone, and as these include regular food the attacking of humans rarely occurs. The Ubour is said to create sparks by its movement.
Upir: A vampire found in the Ukraine that is noted for its desire to eat large amounts of fish.
Ustrel: A Bulgarian vampire that preyed exclusively on cattle. Thought to be the spirit of an un-baptized child that has recently died.
Vampir/Vampiir/Vampyras/Wampir/Wamphyr: From Serbia these creatures are naturally invisible and can only be seen by animals or dhampir. Dhampir, the living offspring of a vampire, and the only ones who can destroy them, would often hire themselves out for this very purpose.
Varacolaci/Varcolaci/Varcolac: Romanian vampire that ranks among the most powerful of all the un-dead. It is said to have the ability to cause both lunar and solar eclipses. They may appear as pale humans with dry skin. They can travel on an astral thread, the midnight spinning, traveling as far as need as long as the thread remains unbroken. Theyfall into a deep sleep when they cause the eclipses. If the host of the varcoloc spirit is moved, the spirit will not be able to return and the host sleeps eternally.

Veshtitza: From Montenegro and Serbia and very similar to the Stryx and Striga myths. The spirit leaves the body at night and possesses a hen or black moth. It flies around until it finds a home with infants and/or young children where it drinks their blood and eats their hearts. They came together to form covens which flocked in trees and shared whatr they caught earlier.
Viesczy/Vjiesce: Can be dispatched by sprinkling poppy seeds over their grave. they have a stinger under their tongue instead of fangs.
Volkodlak/Vukodlak: A species of vampire found in Slovenia, linked in some ways to various werewolf legends.
Zmeu: A vampiric figure found in Moldavia. It took the form of a flame and entered the room of a young girl or widow. Once inside the flame became a man who seduced her.
Poland Vampire
Ohyn: A vampire from Poland, caused by the presence of teeth and a caul at birth.
Upier: A Polish vampire that is unusual in the fact that it rises at mid day and returns to sleep at midnight. It is said to have a barbed tongue and consumes vast quantities of blood. This creature’s fascination with blood goes much further than normal vampires as it sleeps in blood as well.
Australia Vampire
Talamaur: A living vampire found in Australia. This creature could communicate with the spirit world, making one of these spirits its servant, which it could then send among the living. One version of the Talamaur could send out its soul to drain the remaining life essence from a fresh corpse.
Yara-ma-yha-who:A beast-like creature from Aboriginal myth who lived in the fig and attacked anyone who passed or slept under their tree. the creature would drink the victims blood, but not enough to kill it. Sometimes it ate the victim whole and spit them back out later. The more someone got attacked the more like the creature it became til eventually it totally transformed.
Tibet Vampire
Dakini/Khandro: Spirit of war similar to the arabic ghul. A "wordly dakini".
